The young Church of Montevideo (Uruguay) summons prayer, fasting and works of mercy in offer for priestly and religious vocations.
The initiative arrives after the vocational year lived in the Catholic Church in Uruguay for 2024, and proposes to persevere in prayer, which has already borne fruit in the country: in 2025 five young people enter the Christ King Seminary and four young girls begin their way in different religious communities.

“How nice it is to know that we pray for each other and that all our church that pilgrims in Montevideo is united to ask the Lord to send us more vocations,” they express from a young church, the communications platform of the vicaria of adolescents, young people and vocations of the Archdiocese of Montevideo.
The proposal consists in sustaining a “not cut” prayer chain, during the Friday of the year, between March 7 and December 19. To do this, they summon the faithful to commit to pray, fast and carry out works of mercy.
Those who wish to participate can choose one or several Friday of the year, and must register for WhatsApp at +598 099390933.
In this way, it is sought to ensure that every Friday is covered by people who commit themselves to these actions of faith, thus guaranteeing a constant prayer chain throughout the year.
Works of mercy
The commitment includes works of body or spiritual mercy, that is, charity actions that help others in their needs, being a concrete expression of faith.
Among the body works are: visit the sick, feed the hungry, to drink to the thirsty, give the pilgrim, dress the nude, visit the prisoners and bury the deceased.
Spiritual works include teaching the one who does not know, giving good advice to the one who needs it, correcting the one who is wrong, forgiving those who offend us, comfort the sad, suffer with patience the defects of the neighbor and pray to God for the living and for the deceased.
Promoted by the Archbishop of Montevideo, Cardinal Daniel Sturla, and the youth of the Archdiocese, this is an opportunity to join in prayer and action, holding young people who feel called to religious and priestly life.
What is young church?
Young Church is the communications platform of the vicaria of adolescents, youth and vocations of the Archdiocese of Montevideo, which groups the young Catholics, accompanied by Fr. Marcelo Marciano.
Since 2022, a young Church has a pastoral center located in the Earth Santa parish, where it seeks to enhance communion between them without losing the guidance of their own parish communities.
During the year, they participate in training initiatives, retreats, missions, pilgrimages and worship.
