“On World Trafficking World Day, remember Santa Josefina Bakhita, a woman who suffered the cruelty of trafficking and slavery, but who, despite pain, found the redemption in faith and became a symbol of hope and strength for those who suffer from this atrocious crime, ”he encouraged.
“His life reminds us of the importance of compassion, justice and the tireless struggle against this inhumanity. Let’s join to protect the violated and eradicate this social scourge, ”he insisted.
Prevention is fundamental
Combat trafficking, clarified the prelate, “is not limited only to the reaction; Prevention is fundamental. ”
Therefore, he called “to educate and talk about risks, strengthen communities and promote equal opportunities are key to prevent more people from being victims.”
He also encouraged to “inform us, act and prevent”, ensuring that these “are the most powerful tools to eradicate this crime.”
Among the possible actions to fight for a “exploitation -free” world, Mons. Larregain listed: to help become aware of our communities, schools, institutions, parishes, etc., as well as praying, meditating or deepening, according to the belief of each .
He also proposed to seek organizations that work against trafficking in the different communities; Collaborate, donate to causes to support this fight, and educate others about the signs of trafficking.
“Together we can make a difference and build a world free of exploitation,” he said.
