Wish, or the self-tribute that Disney made

Wish, or the self-tribute that Disney made

Disney honored itself with Wish: The power of wishes, as the company celebrates its first 100 years. And he did it with a musical film, attached to many of the tips, clichés or whatever you want to tell them that usually populate this type of films, clearly aimed at the little ones.

More than anything, answering this question: what can happen if you make a wish upon a star, and the star responds?

Let’s see. We have a young, friendly, risk-taking girl, animals that talk, inhabitants of a town who spend their time singing, and a sorcerer who is the Magnificent King in the City of Roses, a place that seems charming, but… The bad guys are men , and the good ones are the women.

They all live in harmony, knowing that the King keeps their wishes, and, from time to time, after one comes of age, grants them, although not all of them. The thing is that the guy appropriates many of them, and those that seem unrealizable to him, that go against his thinking or, in the best of cases, that do not serve the island of Rosas, he leaves them directly ” saved”.

Asha, the young woman at the beginning, will approach the king, because she hopes to get a job as the king’s apprentice, and over time she will discover the hidden magic of the sovereign, who lies to his subjects. And seeing that there are wishes that will never be fulfilled, she wants to steal the wishes and give them to the true owners of her.

An important fact is that when children give their wishes to Magnífico (voice of Chris Pine), they forget them. Law made… The wishes, represented here as bubbling, blue, floating, shiny balls, do not belong to Magnifico, but he loves to believe that he is in charge of them, when it should be the other way around.

When you make a wish upon a star…

Asha (voiced by Ariana DeBose in the original) lives with her grandfather. Her father, a star-gazing philosopher, died when she was 12. And she goes there, to a tree that reminds her of her father, she makes a wish and a little star comes down and accompanies her.

The kid Valentino (who will be able to talk, thanks to the star) and the same star to whom Asha makes her wish are the co-stars of this, as we said, musical comedy, with beautiful songs, but without any hit that one leaves humming to. the exit from the cinema, type Coco, Frozen o Beauty and the Beast.

Co-directed by veteran Chris Buck (Frozen) and newcomer Fawn Veerasunthorn (worked on Moana y Raya and the last dragon), Wish presents some changes. For now, it stars a 17-year-old girl who doesn’t have a love interest in sight. If there is something that interests Asha, it is her family and her large circle of friends.

Just as you will discover a new Disney presentation, do not move from your seats during the final credits: you will find many, if not all, of the company’s most endearing characters.

If you find a subtitled copy, in addition to those named you will be able to listen to Victor Garber, who was Thomas Andrews in Titanicand Evan Peters, from the miniseries Dahmer.
