Los Golden Globe They were televised again, and they surely believed that everything was going to be better than before. First there is the scandal over the lack of diversity of the voters, plus the bribes and paid trips.
And not. It wasn’t like before, but it wasn’t much better either.
We are going to break down the ceremony between a new presenter (who will surely never be again), the big winners, the losers, the surprises and where you can see the award-winning films in Argentina.
A terrible driver of the ceremony
Comedian Jo Koy reacted today to the overwhelmingly negative criticism he received as host of the 2024 Golden Globes. “I had fun. It was a moment I will always remember,” Koy said the morning after the Globes. “It was hard work, I’m not going to lie… I’d be lying if I said the criticism didn’t hurt. I got to a point where I thought, ‘Oh, hosting is a hard job.’ Yes, I’m a comedian, but that hosting is a different style. We had 10 days to write this monologue. It was a crash course. I feel bad, but I still have to say that I loved what I did.”
During his largely joke-free monologue, he talked a little about how Barry Keoghan’s penis in Saltburnsomehow ended up as Bradley Cooper’s nose in Maestroand made a not-so-happy joke involving The color purple.
And there were more. Koy admitted that her Taylor Swift-related joke fell “a little flat.” The comedian earned backlash during the broadcast for attacking Swift with a joke about how the Golden Globe ceremony aired on CBS right after a football game with the Kansas City Chiefs, a team Swift is now a member of. synonymous given his relationship with tight end Travis Kelce.
“As you know, we came after a double football game,” Koy said during the program. “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes we get less camera shots of Taylor Swift, I swear.” The camera immediately showed Swift in the audience, who looked unamused and took a sip of her drink.
“Some jokes I wrote, other people wrote them… Yes, I got the job 10 days ago! Do you want a perfect monologue?”
Absent with notice
And if we talk about the conducting, of course, Ricky Gervais was missed, who hosted the ceremonies in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2020. The comedian did not even go to the Beverly Hilton, and he was nominated – and won – in one of the two new categories, best Stand Up.
The losers
Barbie She arrived at the ceremony not only as the most nominated, but she had 9 candidates. She won two awards, one in the newly released category of Cinematographic and Box Office Achievement in Films, and best song, for one of the three she had nominated for, the one composed by Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas.
It was worse for The Moon Killers, by Martin Scorsese, which only won best leading actress for Lily Gladstone. Scorsese was up for best dramatic film, direction and screenplay, and Leo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro were nominated.
And it was even worse for Maestroby and with Bradley Cooper, which was nominated in 4 categories (dramatic film, direction and leading actors, for Cooper and Carey Mulligan) and did not win any statuettes.
The winners
Clearly Oppenheimer, by Christopher Nolan, which out of 8 nominations took home 5 awards (dramatic film, direction, actor for Cillian Murphy, supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr. and music). And on television, Succession, The Bear y Beef They were unbeatable, winning awards in their respective main categories – dramatic series, comedy and miniseries or television films – plus leading actors.
Surprise and a half
What Barbie lost with poor creatures As best comedy or musical it was not in anyone’s plans, although in the betting the film with Emma Stone was second. Less, what a better script – which also sounded for Barbieu Oppenheimer– out to Anatomy of a fallwhich curiously was not chosen by France for the Oscar for best international film.
Everyone gave their favorite animated film to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versebut the Japanese ended up winning The boy and the heron, by Hayao Miyazaki (opens this Thursday in cinemas in Argentina). The director’s film Spirited Away It’s not exactly for the little ones.
