In the Catholic Church, the month of June is especially dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, to remember the faithful and unconditional love of Christ for humanity. Furthermore, it is a devotion loved by our Lord and that has its roots in the origins of Christianity.
Devotion to the Heart of Jesus has existed since the first Christians meditated on the side and open heart of the Lord. On the other hand, on June 16, 1675, Jesus asked a saint to encourage her devotion to the Sacred Heart.

That day, the Son of God appeared in France to Saint Margaret Mary of Alacoque, a French nun of the Order of the Visitation of Saint Mary, and showed her his Heart.
According to Saint Margaret, the Heart of Jesus was surrounded by flames of love, crowned with thorns and had an open wound from which blood flowed; Furthermore, a cross emerged from its interior.
“Behold the Heart that has loved men so much, and on the other hand, from most men I receive ingratitude, irreverence and contempt,” Jesus told the saint.
Pope Benedict XVI stated that “when we see the Heart of the Lord, we must look at the side pierced by the spear, where God’s inexhaustible will for salvation shines.”
Likewise, he stressed that “it cannot be considered a passing or devotional cult: the adoration of the love of God, which has found its historical-devotional expression in the symbol of the ‘pierced heart’, remains essential for a living relationship with God.”
That is why in this month we Catholics are called to demonstrate with our works our devotion to his loving Heart, as a way of corresponding to the great love of Jesus, who died for our salvation and stayed in the Eucharist to show us the way to eternal life.
