On this day in 1854, Don Bosco, aged about 39, gave the name of salesians to a small group of young people eager to follow in his footsteps; according to the same congregation.
“On the afternoon of January 26, 1854, the Salesian charismatic adventure ‘officially’ began,” indicates the Agenzia Info Salesiana (ANS), the journalistic communication organ of the Society of Francis de Sales.
“On that date,” he continued, “Don Bosco gave for the first time the name ‘Salesians’ to a small group of young people eager to follow in his footsteps. What happened on the night of January 26 was written by Miguel Rua, in a notebook that is now preserved in the Don Bosco House Museum”.
