Los vehicle registrations 0 km In Argentina, it maintains its downward trend in 2024. The results of February once again showed a fall, continuing what was recorded in January, the worst start to the year in the last two decades.
The number of patented vehicles during the second month of 2024 amounted to 24,811 unitswhich represented a decrease of 18.7% compared to the same month in 2023, when 30,506 units had been registered.
If the comparison is with January of this year, the decrease reaches 26.9% since last month 33,918 units had been registered, according to what was reported by the Association of Automotive Dealers of the Argentine Republic (ACARA).
In this way, in the two accumulated months of the year, 58,729 units were patented, this It is 27.4% less than in the same period of 2023in which 80,869 vehicles had been registered.
The reasons for this decrease are mainly explained by the strong increase in prices of new vehicles in our market, which among the best sellers showed increases of up to 130% in the last four months.
Furthermore, the Government’s delay regarding changes in internal taxes led to the fact that during the first month of the year many brands did not have official price lists.
“A trend that seems to continue”
For the president of ACARA, Sebastián Beato “it is evident that we have had a significant slowdown in activity in the first two months, a trend that seems to continue in the first half of the year, with purchasing power that has deteriorated since has had to face the increase in many goods and services.
The head of the entity estimated that “if inflation drops, as several analysts project, and certainties continue to be added to macro issues, people’s purchasing capacity will be accommodated, which will accelerate the decision to acquire a vehicle and the market will reactivate, something that we can begin to see it reflected in the second semester“.
In that sense, Beato considered that “an important issue to accompany the recovery is that financing rates begin to adjust. We have meetings from the value chain with the banking sector to see how we can add this key element to boost activity. Today we dealers are suffering from it, but I am optimistic in the medium term.”
If February patents are analyzed by brand, Toyota It continues to exercise leadership comfortably, as it registered 4,718 units. She was followed by Volkswagen (3.665), Fiat (3.268), Renault (2.285), Ford (2.234), Peugeot (2.224), Chevrolet (1.270), Jeep (1.075), Nissan (867) y Citroën (812), which complete the top ten.
Last month’s surprise was in the pickup segment, since the Ford Ranger (1,398 registered units) once again led a month of patents, relegating the Toyota Hilux (1,373) and the Volkswagen Amarok (1,200). This parity is also manifested in the accumulated of the two months of the year although the order is modified: Hilux (3,455), Ranger (3,447) and Amarok (3,395).
With these results, the 10 best-selling models of February are the following:
