The automotive market cannot raise its head. The drop in sales in June was abrupt, with a decline in 25,5% with respect to 2023 and 14,1% if compared with the May records.
This decline exacerbates the decline of the sector which, although in the first semester it was always well below the 2023 numbers, in recent months it had shown some recovery in the monthly comparison, thanks to the bonuses and financing plans launched by the automotive.
The gradual normalization in the availability of units and the increase in the minimum taxable amount of the internal tax (also known as luxury tax) were also important for the user to gradually return to the dealerships.
The president of ACARA, Sebastián Beato, commented: “The decline in inflation and the upward trend of the dollar has meant that, mainly in the second half of the month, people approach dealerships. When opportunities appear, demand appears. “That’s why we have been saying that the market has changed and that now we have to go in search of customers.”
According to the report of the Association of Automotive Dealers of the Argentine Republic (ACARA), in June, 29,878 units (40,112 in June 2023 and 34,797 in May 2024).
For its part, in the first semester there were 182,399 patentswhich represents 22.6% less than in the same period in 2023, in which 235,785 vehicles had been registered.
