The sales rate of 0 km cars continues to decline but has shown a small reaction. In April, the drop compared to 2023 was 5,9% and so far this year there have been no months that have recorded favorable balances, including the worst January in the last 20 years.
The Association of Automotive Dealers of the Argentine Republic (ACARA) reported that last month they patented 32,710 unitsabout two thousand fewer (34,766) than had been registered in April 2023.
However, according to the report, if a comparison is made with the results of March of this year (25,815 units), the April exercise showed an increase of 26.7%.
This reaction is due to the numerous promotions, bonuses, discounts and financing offers that brands launched last month in the quest to encourage sales.
In any case, the accumulated numbers for the first four months are compelling. The 117,492 vehicles sold represent a decrease of 24.4% compared to the same period in 2023, in which 155,508 0 km units had been patented.
From the sector they recognize that still incentives and facilities are lacking to get customers back to dealerships. And in order to achieve this they are holding meetings with the banks and the government.
“There are key factors, such as the honesty of the economy, lower inflation and stimulus measures by the State, such as the elimination of CETA, for used vehicles, and taxes for 0 km, which indicate that we are going to a market of growth, and April’s numbers are already beginning to show it,” said Sebastián Beato, president of ACARA.
Beato highlights that difficult months are being left behind and that they were without layoffs or dealership closures. “Better indicators are beginning to be observed that we hope will consolidate. We will not get out of this situation suddenly, it will be gradual and the sector has already begun to undergo that recovery,” he said.
Those who sent in April
Like March, the recovery of imported vehicles continues to rise and there are now four models (all manufactured in Brazil) within the top 10.
Toyota Yaris, the most economical model on the market was second in April. There were news on the podium, because for the first time so far in 2024 the Fiat Cronos is not at the top. The best-selling model of April was the Peugeot 208; followed by the Toyota Yaris (Brazil), the most economical model on the market. Cronos fell to third place, although it still dominates the general table.
Among pickups, the Toyota Hilux narrowly beat the Ford Ranger, while the Toyota Corolla Cross was the most searched SUV.
Regarding the ranking of brands, Toyota It was once again the leader, patenting almost double the number of units (7,608) than Volkswagen (4,133), its closest pursuer. So far this year, the Japanese automaker has accumulated 22,939 sales, while the German one has 16,024.
It is the first time in 2024 that the Cronos is not the best-selling model. Fiat took third place (3,944) and in the accumulated third place with 15,781 units sold.
