The car sales 0 km In Argentina it is still delayed in 2024 according to the results shown by the May patents. However, there seems to be little reaction as last month saw more sales than April.
The number of patented vehicles during the fifth month of the year amounted to 34,614 unitswhich ends up representing a decrease of 13.8% in the year-on-year comparison, since in May 2023 40,165 units had been registered.
But if the comparison is with April of this year, an increase of 5.1% is observed since last month 32,943 units had been registered, as reported by the Association of Automotive Dealers of the Argentine Republic (ACARA).
In this way, in the Five accumulated months of the year, 152,339 units were patentedwhich represents 22.1% less than in the same period of 2023, in which 195,673 vehicles had been registered.
The accumulated fall is also explained by the meager result achieved in January, which is always the month with the most patents accumulated and 2024 turned out to be the worst in the last 20 years.
Toyota, up
During May, the brand that delivered the most vehicles was once again Toyota, patenting 8,324 units and reaching more than 25% of the market. That is to say, of the four vehicles that were registered last month, one belonged to the Japanese brand. They followed her Volkswagen (5,085 vehicles), Fiat (3.504), Peugeot (2.810) y Renault (2,752) to complete the top five.
In the cumulative total of the year, Toyota also leads with 31,303 accumulated units and the pursuers maintain the same position: Volkswagen (21,148), Fiat (19,334), Peugeot (14,063) and Renault (13,326).
Regarding models, the Japanese company is also celebrating, since the Hilux pickup was once again the most patented model on the market, with 2,560 registered trucks.
Among the particularities that it showed last month, the fact that the sale of domestically produced cars grew again, when the trend in previous months showed the growth of imported vehicles.
In addition, the Fiat Cronos, the best-selling car of the year, finished off the podium again. The Ford Ranger pickup remains among the 5 best-selling models and the Chevrolet Cruze showed good performance and remains in the top ten.
Financing is the key
“May’s figures continue to improve and this is due, in large part, to the fact that financing appeared,” commented the president of ACARA, Sebastián Beato, who highlighted that “a few months ago bank rates were above 100% and today they are already a third.”
For Beato, “this key tool for the sector will continue to expand also for motorcycles and machinery and is what will allow us a massive improvement.”
But he also mentioned a sensitive issue that greatly impacts the current values of 0 km, the tax issue: “There are some tax reduction proposals that are also going to have a strong influence on the client appearing firmly. From the supply chain value we also have a lot to do and that is what we are working on, the automotive companies, with discounts and promotions to encourage sales, and the dealers with bonuses and added value so that customers return, which makes us predict that the second half will be even better than the first.” Blessed completed.
