RAM confirmed the arrival of its compact truck Rampage which is manufactured in Brazil and which became the brand’s first pickup developed outside of North America.
The confirmation coincides with the brand’s deployment in its “summer operation” to promote its products and which has Rampage as its star. This year, the actions will be centralized in the Off Road Park, at kilometer 407 of RP 11, in Villa Gesell.
The new Rampage will be offered in Argentina in two of its three configurations: Rebelmore oriented to off-road use, and R/T, with a setup more oriented towards sporty track handling. The Laramie variant, which is sold in Brazil and has a more refined style, will not be available in the country for the moment.
The two options that will be marketed in the country will have the same mechanical assembly: 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 272 horsepower, 9-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. But between the two there are big differences in style and set-up.
This RAM pickup is a compact vehicle, which due to size and features will be located below medium-sized trucks such as the Toyota Hilux or the Ford Ranger. In fact, it will have a pickup truck from the oval brand as its main competitor: the Maverick.
It is the brand’s first truck developed and produced outside of North America. The Stellantis Group plant, in Pernambuco, is the center in charge of manufacturing this model for the entire region.
On and off the asphalt
This new truck is built on the platform Small Widethe same one on which Stellantis Group models such as the Fiat Toro and the Jeep Compass and Commander are manufactured.
The brand reported that numerous changes were made for this pickup, so much so that The monocoque structure receives 60% renewed and redesigned parts. Also the use of high and ultra resistance steels is superior than in other models.
For this Rampage, a very clear differentiation was chosen between the available options, both in style and set-up.
The Rebelfor example, has a more off-road orientation, with a majority of black plastics on the nose and bumpers in addition to the chosen tires: All Terrain in measurements 235/65 R17. The interior is predominantly black, with leather coverings (not imitation leather).
The alternative R/T (Road and Track, Road and Track) is the sporty option, with black but shiny details and 19-inch wheels with comparatively low profile (235/55). The interior combines black with red details and a combination of leather and Suedea material with a texture similar to alcantara.
In all versions the dimensions are practically the same, with 5,028 mm long, 1,886 mm wide, 1,780 mm high, and 2,994 mm wheelbase. The only difference appears in the ground clearance, which is 264 mm, except in the R/T variant which is lowered by 10 mm.
The load capacity is 750 with the gasoline engine. There is a turbodiesel version, which at the moment was not announced for the local market, which can carry 1,015 kilos.
One of the great new features of the launch of this pickup is the incorporation of the Hurricane 4 engine, a 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine with direct fuel injection, which delivers 272 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. This engine is available across the range and also comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
In the R/T version, the sportiest of all, the Rampage accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and has a maximum (limited) speed of 220 km/h.
In the other versions, performance remains high: 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds and a maximum speed of 210 km/h. That’s why RAM boasts the most powerful and fastest-accelerating regional production truck.
Inside comes with two large screens. One of them serves as the instrument panel and has a size of 10.3 inches. The one on the center console is even larger (12 inches) and that allows the information to be divided into several sections.
The connection with cell phone applications is wireless, as is battery charging. The latter has, in turn, a cooling system that prevents the device from overheating. Inside it has 6 USB ports, of which 3 are USB-C.
In terms of safety, it is worth highlighting its 7 airbags (front, front side, curtain and knee for driver) and a comprehensive package of driving assistance systemssuch as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking or lane maintenance system, among others.
At the moment the sales prices of this new model have not been reported, something that will happen in the coming days. But to have a reference, in Brazil, the Rebel is cheaper than the R/T and both are more expensive than the Ford Maverick.
