This is explained by Fr. Hans Zavala, a priest of the Order of San Agustín and rector of the Santa Rosa de Chosica School (Peru), in statements to ACI Press. The priest recalled the importance of Pentecost’s party and encouraged all Catholics to be prepared to receive the Holy Spirit.
The Augustinian priest stressed that next to Easter and Christmas, Pentecost “is a very important party for every Christian, because we should remind us of our evangelizing role, of each one as a Christian and, also, like the body of Christ that we are in the Church.”
He said that this liturgical party “not only remember, but somehow we update the saving mission of the Church, to be a sacrament of salvation for all men.”
Likewise, Fr. Zavala pointed out that it is “vital” to prepare to receive the Holy Spirit, since it is a “gift and gift that God sends us.” “Just as we have prepared for Easter in Lent, we must also prepare to receive the gift that comes from above, the most precious gift that God can give the man who is his Holy Spirit,” he added.
“If we do not prepare, it is as if God sent a brain of blessings through the Holy Spirit on this day and we had the umbrella open, preventing that grace of the spirit from spilling on us and penetrating our lives,” he said.
In that sense, he warned that “nobody who does not possess the Holy Spirit can please God, because in the end, please please can come from his grace, and his grace just comes in the gift that the Holy Spirit wants to give us (in Pentecost).”
Father Zavala also pointed out that only “when we have the Holy Spirit in our lives we are really able to live Christianly” and to “be consistent with the mission that God has entrusted to us in our baptism.”
Likewise, he said, we can be coherent “with the mission we have acquired” in the vocation that God has called us: marriage, priesthood, religious or consecrated life. “We can only respond with generosity and perseverance to God’s call if we possess his spirit,” he said.
“May the Lord bless you and that you can just live this party of Pentecost with all the desire that the Holy Spirit arrives at your home, at your home and your heart,” he concluded.
