He Citroën Basaltthe third and last exponent of the C-Cubo project that was born in 2022 with C3 and continued in 2023 with C3 Aircross, has just been launched in Brazil and is expected to arrive in our market in the first two months of 2025.
Developed by the Stellantis engineering team in the region and produced at the Brazilian plant in Porto Real, Basalt is characterized by fusing the silhouette of an SUV with that of a coupe and delivering the comfort of a sedan.
It is a concept that works very well and has great acceptance among users: it has not only been successful in luxury brands, such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz, it has also resulted in more popular models such as Volkswagen Nivus and Fiat Fastback.
The Basalt will represent the French brand’s third offering in the compact SUV segment, where it already competes with the C3 Aircross and C4 Cactus. With its entry, the automaker will seek to end the year 2025 with a 5% or more market share and thus improve the 3.8% planned for this year.
“Its launch will be a fundamental piece for the growth of the brand in our country, and is the synthesis of all the benefits that the synergy of Stellantis brings to its brands,” said Martín Zuppi, president of Stellantis Argentina.
The Citroën Basalt will be offered in three versions (Live Pack, Feel and Shine), which will be complemented by an exclusive special launch series First Edition.
The first two will have the gasoline engine 1.6 liter 115 horsepowerassociated with a five speed manual gearbox.
While the version Shine will have the T200 motorbike (1.0 liter, turbo, 120 HP) already present in other models of the group such as C3 Aircross, Peugeot 208, Fiat Pulse (and soon in the C3). This thruster will be connected to a CVT type automatic transmission.
The top-of-the-range version will have the T200 turbo engine, associated with a CVT automatic transmission. Likewise, the special launch version called First Edition also has this T200 engine with a CVT box and distinctive pearly white color and exclusive customization.
Aesthetically, the Citroën Basalt has many similarities with the Fiat Fastback, despite being centimeters shorter and be developed on another platform (CMP). Both models stand out for their ground clearance, raised hood, flared fenders with black moldings and a long tailgate drop.
Another joint attribute is the interior space and the generous loading capacity of its trunk. 490 liters which can be expanded up to 1,540 with the rear seats folded.
The trunk has a capacity of 490 liters. For its part, inside it maintains the aesthetic DNA present in the C3 and C3 Aircross, where a 10″ multimedia screen stands out, a 7″ digital instrument panel and a multifunction steering wheel.
All versions will feature driver armrests, including unique rear side headrests with flaps, similar to those found in business class seats on airplanes.
It is worth noting that although the prices will only be reported during its launch in the summer, Stellantis emphasized that it will have very competitive pricesso we estimate that it could be located between the C3 and the C3 Aircross.
