Chevrolet launched a new call campaign for those users who have not yet come forward to replace the airbag module located on the steering wheel, which could be defective.
This new call is for owners of the models Cruzemanufactured between June 2009 and December 2015; Tracker, produced between December 2012 and June 2018; and Sonicfrom October 2011 to July 2016.
In its statement, the automaker emphasizes how essential and urgent it is to go to the workshop because, in the event of a crash, during the activation of the airbag it could cause inflator breakage.
This situation would cause scattering of metal fragmentscausing material damage, serious or even fatal physical injuries to the driver and occupants of the vehicle.
The models Cruze Affected by the recall are those that fall within the following chassis numbers: KL1PJ5D54AK515871 a KL1PJ6E57GK328380.
In the case of Trackerthe call is for vehicles whose chassis is within the following numbering: 3GNCJ8CEXDL154537 a 3GNDJ8CE8JL415292.
While in the Sonic There are two batches, the first among the chassis numbers KL1JM6EE7CB042195 a KL1JJ5DE2GB749506and the second among 3G1J86ECXES528267 y 3G1J85EC4GS521411.
A repeating campaign
This call from Chevrolet is one more episode of the high-profile Takata Case, the company of Japanese origin that at the time was the largest supplier of airbags in the global industry and which ended in the largest recall known to the industry, with more than 100 million vehicles affected throughout the planet.
Chevrolet had started this recall campaign in 2020. In that first recall, 90,308 affected units of the model were estimated. Classic and another 8,450 from Celta.
And it reinforced it last year, even rewarding users who showed up to perform the corresponding check with money.
