What are the best-selling models?

More and more hybrid and electric cars are sold in Argentina. The growth of electromobility is advancing steadily; perhaps not as fast as in other more developed markets, but thanks to an increasingly wide range of options that includes “low cost” models.

During the second quarter of the year, they were patented in Argentina 3,672 units of electrified vehicles (hybrids and pure electric), according to data from the Online Information System of the Automotive Market of Argentina (SIOMAA).

This figure represents a 45.8% growth with respect to the same fiscal year of 2023 and the 47,1% compared to the first quarter of the year. Likewise, the patents accumulated between January and June reached 6,169 units32.7% more than last year.

Currently, some 36,400 vehicles with electrified propulsion system circulate in the country. Almost 90% of them are hybrids (HEV), with mild hybridization (mild-hybrid) gaining a lot of participation in recent times thanks, above all, to high-end brands that incorporated this technology as a unique offer in their vehicles. .

SIOMAA details that this incipient and slow incursion of hybrid and electric vehicles in Argentina occurs, as expected, in the most populated areas and especially in those jurisdictions that took the initiative to offer tax benefitsfor example, in the payment of patent tax.

Currently, the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, La Plata, Neuquén, San Juan, Mendoza, Río Grande (Tierra del Fuego), Santa Fe and Río Negro have some type of tax benefit for hybrid and electric vehicles, which must also be add Chubut and San Luis, which have discounts of between 25% and 75% on their patent taxes.

High Voltage Brands and Models

Renaultwith the arrival of the E-Tech electric family; Nissanwith the X-Trail ePower; Mercedes-Benzhand in hand with the deliveries of the C300 and GLC 300 (mild-hybrid); and Toyota, undisputed market leader, recorded growth in their performance compared to the first quarter of the year.

The Toyota Corolla Cross continues to lead sales among hybrids, almost doubling the Corolla in second place. Both models represent almost 80% of total patents.

The SIOMAA report also highlights the progress of Ford Maverick, which in the first half of the year patented almost half of what it had done in all of 2023 and had a growth of 226% compared to the first half of last year. Its good performance can be seen even in July, when it patented 101 units (more than half of what was registered in the first half of 2024).

For its part, among the electric ones, the Renault Kwid E-Tech stands out, the boy of the $30.650.000 which already has 100 patented units. The Megane E-Tech is not far behind either, with 50 units circulating since its launch a few months ago.
