The changes in the PAIS tax are already generating the first modifications in the price lists of 0 km cars in Argentina. And that context ended up influencing the November patents waiting for new discounts.
During the past month, the total number of patented vehicles amounted to 35,364 unitswhich represents a decrease of 1.7% year-on-year, since in November 2023 35,977 units had been registered.
If the comparison is against October of this year, a down 20.5% since last month 44,470 units had been registered, according to the Association of Automotive Dealers of the Argentine Republic (ACARA).
In this way, the accumulated eleven months of the year show a total of registrations of 391,592 units, which represents 9.1% less than in the same period of 2023, in which 430,919 vehicles had been patented.
Last month he also once again demonstrated the leadership of the Peugeot 208as the most chosen car on the market, and Toyotaas the brand that patented the most copies.
A month with lower patents
Last September, the Government made the reduction of the PAIS tax official through a presidential decree. In this way, the tax that impacts imports went from 17.5% to 7.5%.
The result of that decision was the lowering of the list prices of almost all 0 km. Some of them also served to rearrange the ranges since there were cases of reductions of more than 25% that were not due to changes in the tax.
The new government provision eliminates the advance of 95% of the rate that had to be executed to enter finished products or parts. It is the advance of the complete elimination of the PAIS tax announced by the executive for the end of December.
This was one of the reasons for the drop in patents during November, which thus ended a streak of positive numbers that accumulated for two consecutive months (September and October).
The Volkswagen Amarok completed the podium of the most patented vehicles in November.In any case, for the president of ACARA, Sebastián Beato, “the November figures are positive since we enter the last two months of the year, which historically are the lowest in numbers, with a market that continues with a good inertia of supply and demand”.
The head of the entity highlighted that “we continue to observe how the negative trend of the first semester was clearly reversedwith financing as the main protagonist, and it seems that the money laundering is beginning to have an impact, which also reaches the automotive sector, something auspicious that adds to an already more stable macroeconomy, a quiet dollar, falling inflation and new models from the factories.”
Beato commented that “we wanted to be able to end the year above 400,000 units and there are just a few weeks left to corroborate this, which will allow us to project a January with a floor of 60,000 units and start planning for 2025 with a market of half a million of patented vehicles”.

Toyota was once again the brand that registered the most vehicles during November: in total it patented 7,148 vehicles. It was followed by Volkswagen (5,622), Fiat (3,908), Peugeot (3,410), Ford (3,023), Renault (2,985), Chevrolet (1,990), Citroën (1,200), Jeep (959) and Nissan (898), among the top 10
In the annual cumulative figure, the Japanese brand is also at the top of the ranking, with 80,089 registered vehicles, followed by Volkswagen (61,088). Fiat (45,606), Peugeot (35,508), Ford (33,694), Renault (33,057), Chevrolete (22,024), Citroën (13,814), Jeep (12,474) and Nissan (12,008).
