The Bishop of Cartagena (Spain), Mons. José Manuel Lorca Plans, said that “violence never fixes anything”, given the clashes that have been giving in recent days in the town of Torre Pacheco, which keep the local population in suspense.
“We listen with concern the news that comes from Torre Pacheco, because they all talk about violence and we know that violence never fixes anything or a solution of anything,” said the prelate in a communication This Sunday, July 13.

“On the contrary,” he continued, “creates uneasiness and more in a town that has always distinguished itself because they have given work, for coexistence and integration.”
What happens in Torre Pacheco?
The clashes began after the dissemination of a video in which three men are seen, who would be Maghreb immigrants, hitting a 68 -year -old man.

According to the Spanish media that quotes police sources, the fights occur between the Maghreb immigrants of the municipality and “extremist and ultras groups.”

Torre Pacheco, is a Spanish municipality in the Region of Murcia, located on the plain of Campo de Cartagena, 8 kilometers from the beaches of Mar Menor.
It has just over 40,000 inhabitants, of which 30%, more than 12,000 people are Muslim immigrants that mainly come from African countries such as Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria.
With the clashes there has already been a detainee and five injured, according to the diario ABCwhich points out that various local authorities have called for calm before the riots.

After congratulating the members of the local parish and all who “are working to make this call to calm possible and serenity,” the Bishop of Cartagena encouraged the “men and women of Torre Pacheco” to continue living “as Christians always looking for peace and avoiding all kinds of exaltation, so that you will recover your essence.”
“As conflicts do not help anyone,” he concluded, “I ask the Lord to grant us all the force to witness peace and love, and that we are even witnesses also of forgiveness.”
