Villa Victoria Ocampo – located in Matheu 1851 – is a historic house, one of the architectural jewels of Mar del Plata, which for several years was the summer house of the writer Victoria Ocampo.
It is a prefabricated house in wood and iron, built in 1912 in the United Kingdom and transferred from there by boat until its current site. Initially it belonged to an aunt’s grandmother of the writer, Francisca Ocampo de Ocampo -the “aunt Pancha” -, and Victoria inherited it in the 1920s.
Since then, the artist turned this house into a Meeting space for people of culture. From Jorge Luis Borges to Adolfo Bioy Casares, Gabriela Mistral or Waldo Frank, among many others.
Victoria Donated the property to UNESCObut the organization decided to sell it to finance the maintenance of another house of the writer, which she had in San Isidro.
So It was acquired by the Municipality of General Pueyrredónin 1981, and transformed it into a cultural center, which is its current function: Museum and Cultural Center with gardens and galleries, which You can visit throughout the year.
