In the videos disseminated in social networks, Pope Francis is observed without his usual white or solido sotana, dressing with dark pants and a shirt covered by a striped blanket.

The Pontiff went directly to the monumental chair of San Pedro, symbol of the episcopal authority of the first Pope in history, he reported Vatican News.

This relic, preserved after the altar of the basilica, is framed by an imposing baroque structure of golden bronze designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The work, completed in 1666 after more than a decade of work, includes two angels that support the pontifical badges: the keys and the tiara.

The visit of the Holy Father coincided with the recent restoration of this sculptural set, carried out within the framework of the Jubileo de la Esperanza, which has also included the cleaning of the Baldaquino de San Pedro, another of Bernini’s masterpieces.

This is the second public appearance of Pope Francis since his return to the Vatican on March 23, after 38 days admitted to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome.

After observing the work done in the chair, he went to the tomb of St. Pius X, known as the “Pope of the Eucharist”, where he remained silent for a few minutes.

He also took the opportunity to greet several faithful and tourists present in the Basilica, as well as the restorers who work in the conservation works.

After the visit, the Holy Father returned to his residence at Casa Santa Marta, where his recovery continues.

Although it had initially indicated that he would not make public appearances or receive visits during his convalescence, Pope Francis also surprised last Sunday by participating in the jubilee for the sick.

After confessing and crossing the holy door, the Pontiff accessed the cordoned hall that divided one of the areas of the Plaza de San Pedro where hundreds of faithful were gathered, who received him with great enthusiasm and exultant of happiness when he saw him.

“Happy Sunday, thank you all!” He said in the fatigued voice and breathing problems when the microphone approached him.

The Holy Father carried at all times the nasal cannulas through which he receives oxygen at specific times of the day, since, for the moment, he is not able to breathe autonomously.

Likewise, this Wednesday, King Carlos III of the United Kingdom was already Queen Camila, although the meeting had been previously canceled by caution.
