Pope Leo XIV apologized for “a little late” to an event in the Vatican, on the occasion of the 1,700 years of the council of Nicea, which are held this 2025.
“Before continuing with formal speech, I would like to apologize for having arrived a little late,” said the Holy Father before the event attendees.

“I am very happy to be with you this morning,” added Leo XIV, before reading the speech he prepared for the occasion, in the Clementine room of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.
THE SYMPOSIUM “Nicea and the Church of the Third Millennium: Towards the Catholics and Orthodox Unit”It was held from June 4 to 7 at the Pontifical Santo Tomás de Aquino University (Angelicum) in Rome.
The council of Nicea is the first ecumenical council in the history of the Catholic Church. It took place from May 20 to July 25, 325 in Nicea, current Türkiye.
They attended the council bishops of all the regions where there were Christians. It was carried out to achieve the unity of the Church, shaken by heresy of Arianism, promoted by a priest named Ario, who denied the divinity of Jesus Christ.
Pope Francis had expressed his desire to travel to Türkiye to celebrate 1,700 years of the council of Nicea. Now it could be the first destination of the international trips of Pope Leo XIV.
