On January 2, the Consolata Missionaries in Venezuela confirmed the death of the priest of Kenyan origin, Josiah Asa K’Okal, in the town of Guara, Monagas state. The circumstances of the priest’s death are still unknown,
The African priest, a Venezuelan national, arrived in the country in 1997, very shortly after his priestly ordination. During the last 15 years of his life he dedicated himself to working pastorally with the Warao indigenous community and the poorest people of the Delta Amacuro state, located in eastern Venezuela.
On January 1, the headquarters of the congregation in Paloma, Tucupita (Delta Amacuro) reported the disappearance of Father K’Okal, after he left the house without a known destination. According to Radio Fe y Alegría Venezuelathe priest was tracked until he left the state territory and entered a solitary area.
