The Venezuelan diocese of Carúpano has signed a collaboration agreement with the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM), in Spain, which will contribute to the impulse of the professional and pastoral development of seminarists, priests and laity in Venezuela.

The Bishop of Carúpano, Mons. “In 2018 we started conversations with José Luis Mendoza, founder of the UCAM, to establish a training agreement in Venezuela, and last year, a delegation from the University traveled to our country; After meetings with the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference, Universities and the Ministry of Education, we have completed this alliance, ”said Mons. Villarroel.

The first projects of this alliance are already underway, the University said, despite the complicated Venezuelan situation. Two young people from the Diocese of Carúpano attend the degree in Psychology at UCAM, in online modality, “with the commitment to apply their knowledge in the pastoral field.”

Similarly, three people completed their training in family pastoral and the university plans to expand the program to respond to the growing need for training in Venezuela.

The president of the UCAM, María Dolores García, highlighted the commitment of the House of Studies with International Education and Cooperation. In addition, with this initiative, he has reaffirmed “his vocation of service and his commitment to the integral formation of people, contributing to social and spiritual development in Venezuela.”

“Our country is going through a deep crisis and we believe that, in alliance with UCAM, we can strengthen professional education and training in Christian values,” concluded Mons. Villarroel.
