Pope Leo XIV stressed that our faith in Christ is not only of Sundays but must be lived every day, in greeting at the end of a Mass chaired by Cardinal Ghanés Peter Turkson, chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, within the framework of a jubilee pilgrimage for Peace in Africa.
The Eucharist presided by Cardinal Turkson was held this afternoon in the Basilica of San Pedro in the Vatican, on the occasion of the pilgrimage of the African ambassadors accredited before the Holy See, which led by motto Esperance of peace in Africa (The hope of peace in Africa).

“It is our faith that gives us strength. It is our faith that allows us to see the light of Jesus Christ in our lives and understand how important it is to live it. Not only on Sundays, not only during a pilgrimage, but each and every day”, Said Leo XIV at the end of the Mass, in a spontaneous greeting since his presence was not planned, according to Vatican News.
Pope Leo XIV also highlighted the importance that in this 2025 jubilee Christians being carriers of hope. “How important is that each baptized feel called by God to be a sign of hope in today’s world,” he said.
In this way, the Pope continued, people can be filled “with hope that only Jesus Christ can give us and for all together to continue walking together as brothers and sisters to praise our God; to recognize that everything we have and all that we are is a gift of God, and to put those gifts at the service of others”.
The Holy Father expressed his joy to greet the participants in the pilgrimage, in which the Nigerian cardinal Francis Arrinze was also, and thanked those present “for living your life, your faith in Jesus Christ” and for the “great testimony that everyone is giving and that the African continent gives the entire world.”
