Leo XIV told catechists that intuition is “a movement of the spirit, an intelligence of the heart that Jesus recognized mostly in the little ones, that is, in the people of humble soul.” In that sense, he explained that “wise people intuit little, because they presume knowing.”

“On the other hand, it is beautiful to still have space in the mind and in the heart, so that God can reveal himself. How much hope when new intuitions arise in the people of God!” He added.

In addition, he pointed out that “Jesus is glad” of the intuition of the little ones, who possess the feeling of faith (sense of faith), which is “as a ‘sixth meaning’ of simple people for the things of God.”

“God is simple and reveals himself to the singles. That is why there is an infallibility of God’s people in believing, of which the infallibility of the Pope is expression and service,” said the Pope.

The example of San Ambrosio de Milan

Leo XIV recalled the history of San Ambrosio de Milan, as an example of “how hope can come from the ability of the people to intuit.”

In the fourth century, when the Church of Milan suffered great conflicts and the choice of a new bishop “was becoming a true tumult,” civil authority intervened in the figure of El Governor: Ambrosio, a man who “with a great capacity for listening and mediation returned calm.”

The tradition says that in the middle of the situation a child raised his voice: “Ambrose Bishop!” And all the people accompanied him in his clamor. The issue was that the governor was not even baptized, it was barely a catechumen.

“However, the people sensed something deep from this man and chose it. Thus the Church had one of its greatest bishops, and a doctor of the Church,” explained the Holy Father.

“At first Ambrosio did not want, he even fled. He then understood that that was a call from God, then he let himself be baptized and ordered bishop. And he became a Christian being bishop!” He added.

This was “a great gift that the little ones made to the church.” For the Pope, the example of St. Ambrose must lead to believers to ask for the grace to “become Christians while the call is lived.” Regardless of obligations or our vocation, the people have the “smell” of understanding if someone truly lives the Christian message.

“San Ambrosio, over the years, returned a lot to his people. For example, he invented new ways of singing psalms and hymns, of celebrating, of preaching. He himself knew how to intuit, and thus hope multiplied,” said Pope León.

“Agustín was converted by his preaching and was baptized by Him. Intiring is a way of waiting, let’s not forget!”, He concluded, inviting those present to become small to “intuit and serve the dreams of God.”

Finally, the Holy Father directed a special greeting to all the faithful present in different languages, our father prayed and taught the apostolic blessing.
