The Vatican Press Office reported this Thursday, January 11, that Pope Francis has appointed Mons. Ricardo Aldo Barreto Cairo, until now Auxiliary Bishop of Caracas, as the new Bishop of Valle de la Pascua in Venezuela.
The prelate thus succeeds Bishop Ramón José Aponte Fernández, whose resignation was accepted by the Holy Father for having reached the retirement age of bishops, 75 years.
Mons. Barreto was born in Panama on July 7, 1968. At the age of 5 he arrived with his parents in Venezuela. He obtained Venezuelan nationality in 1985, when he was 17.
