Pope Francis affirmed that the Word of God “is the only one that serves as a compass for our path”, just a few days before the sixth edition of the Sunday of the Word of God, next January 26.
“In the midst of the daze and vanity of human words, we need the #WordOfGod, the only one that serves as a compass for our path,” the Holy Father wrote on his X account on January 21.

Pope Francis also highlighted that the Word of God is “the only one that, in the face of so many wounds and losses, is capable of leading us back to the true meaning of life.”

This year the motto of the Sixth Sunday of the Word of God comes from Psalm 119: “I hope in your word.” As in other years, Pope Francis will preside over a Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican at 9:30 am (local time).
In addition, the Holy Father will confer the ministry of the lectorate on forty lay people, including several women; and at the end of the Mass the Pontiff will give those present the Gospel of Luke, “with the intention, which has already become a tradition, of spreading the Word of God in a tangible way.”
Pope Francis established the Sunday of the Word of God in 2019 so that “religious and assiduous familiarity” with the Bible may grow among the People of God.
In the apostolic letter in the form motu proprio He opened to themof September 30, 2019, the Holy Father wrote: “Concretely dedicating one Sunday of the liturgical year to the Word of God allows us, above all, to make the Church revive the gesture of the Risen Lord who also opens for us the treasure of his Word so that we can announce this inexhaustible wealth throughout the world.”
