Vatican: Pope Francis names Gustavo Rosales Escobar as Bishop of San Jacinto, Ecuador

Pope Francis appointed Mons. Gustavo Adolfo Rosales Escobar, until now Guayaquil Auxiliary Bishop, as the new Bishop of San Jacinto in Ecuador.

Mons. Gustavo Adolfo Rosales Escobar is the new bishop of San Jacinto in Ecuador. He was born on August 26, 1964 in Valparaíso (Chile). He is 60 years old.

He studied philosophy at the Valparaíso Seminar. He arrived in Cuenca (Ecuador) to study law. Then he entered the San León Magno Seminar in Cuenca, where he studied theology.

He was ordained a priest on October 26, 1991 and was incardinated in the Archdiocese of Cuenca, where he was a parish priest of different parishes, as well as professor and rector of the seminar where he studied.

He has also been director of the diocesan publication “Domingo del Lord” and vice president of the Organization of Seminars of Ecuador (OSEC).

He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Guayaquil on June 3, 2022.
