The Vatican Press Office reported this Saturday, February 10, that Pope Francis has erected the new diocese of Canindeyú in Paraguay and appointed as its first bishop Mons. Roberto Carlos Zacarías López, until now vicar general of the diocese of Ciudad del Este.
The new diocese has been established with territory dismembered from Ciudad del Este and is made up of all the municipalities of the civil department of Canindeyú.
The new prelate, whose consecration will take place next March 2 in the Katueté Cathedral dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, will serve a population of 239,386 people, of which 211,138 are Catholic.
