Although the spokesperson for the Presidency, Manuel Adorni, had clarified that the personal meeting between Milei and Pope Francis was not confirmed, the trip to Italy was already on the agenda, as was participation in the canonization ceremony.
The confirmation came in the last few hours, after the current ambassador to the Holy See, María Fernanda Silva, officially communicated to the Foreign Ministry that the meeting had to be processed through the embassy, in addition to the request already made by the government through the Nunciature, details Infobae.
Milei’s agenda includes first a trip to Israel, then arriving in Rome. In their first face-to-face meeting, Milei’s old opinions about the Pontiff, and for which he later apologized, will be put to the test. At first glance, the differences seem to have been left behind also by Francisco, who in December called the President to congratulate him on his victory, and now confirmed his interest in starting a path of dialogue.
