Pope Francis appointed Fr. Pedro Aguado Cuesta, until now superior general of the Order of Pious Schools (Escolapios), as the new Bishop of Huesca and Jaca in Spain.

Who is the new Bishop of Huesca and Jaca?

Mons. Pedro Aguado is the new bishop of Huesca and Jaca. He was born on June 26, 1957 in Bilbao. He is 67 years old.

He made his solemn profession with the Escolapios on August 25, 1979 in the community “San José de Calasanz” in Pamplona. There was also a priest on June 13, 1982.

He studied education at the “Our Lady of Begoña” Teacher School in Bilbao (1978). He has a degree in Ecclesiastical Sciences from the Higher Center for Theology, under the University of Navarra (1982) and a degree in Philosophy and Education Sciences from the University of Deusto (1988).

He has worked on different positions with the Escolapios, as an economo, responsible for the vocational pastoral, responsible for the Pastoral of the Colleges and Provincial Superior.

Since 2009 he has been general in the Order of Pious Schools (Escolapios) and president of the Education Commission of Superior and Superior Generals (UISG and USG).

Since 2016 he is the Consultant of the Congregation for Catholic Education – today Dicastery for Culture and Education – in the Vatican.
