Pope Francis appointed Father César Augusto Huerta Ramírez, of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Arequipa (Peru), as the new Bishop of Sicuani in the Peruvian Andes.
The bishop-elect succeeds Bishop Pedro Alberto Bustamante López, who was named Bishop of Huánuco in June of this year. This prelate, informs the diocesewill continue to be Apostolic Administrator of Sicuani until the new bishop takes office.

Who is the new Bishop of Sicuani in the Peruvian Andes?
Mons. César Augusto Huerta Ramírez was born on November 14, 1975 in Huaraz, department of Ancash. He is 48 years old.
As reported by the Vatican Press Officehe completed his training for the priesthood at the San Jerónimo Major Seminary in Arequipa, obtained a bachelor’s degree in Moral Theology at the San Dámaso Ecclesiastical University in Madrid (Spain) and a master’s degree in Bioethics at the University of La Rioja, also in Spain.
He also obtained a diploma in Social Doctrine of the Church at the Finis Terrae University (Chile) and at the Pontifical University Lumen Gentium, (Mexico).
He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Arequipa on November 17, 2005.
He has held, among others, the following positions: parish priest of the Beata Sor Ana de los Ángeles and Santa María de la Cabeza parishes (2006-2014); professor at the Archdiocesan School of Catechism, the Higher School of Religious Education, the School for Young Leaders and the San Jerónimo Major Seminary of Arequipa.
Since 2007 he has been a professor at the Santa María Catholic University and the San Pablo Catholic University, Chaplain of the Public Higher Pedagogical Institute, Arequipa (2008-2013); parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, in Sabandía, and of Santa María, Mollebaya, Arequipa (2017-2021).
Since 2022 he has been parish priest of Cristo Obrero, in Miraflores, Arequipa. Since 2023 he has been episcopal vicar for the Coordination of the Ensemble Archdiocesan Pastoral of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Arequipa; and director of the Catechist Schools of Arequipa (2024).
