The Vatican Press Office reported that Pope Francis has appointed Fr. Óscar Álvarez Orellana as the new Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of San Salvador in El Salvador.
In a statement published on December 16, it is stated that the elected Auxiliary Bishop was, until now, rector of the Seminary of San José de la Montaña.
With this appointment, the new prelate succeeds Cardinal Gregorio Rosa Chávez, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus, retired by age since October 2022, and will serve under the authority of the Archbishop of San Salvador, Bishop José Luis Escobar Alas.
