Pope Francis appointed Bishop Faustino Burgos Brisman, until now Auxiliary Bishop of Santo Domingo, as the new Bishop of Baní in the Dominican Republic.
As reported by the website of the Dominican episcopate, the prelate had been serving as Apostolic Administrator of Baní since September 12, 2023, when the diocese became vacant following the resignation of the bishop of Spanish origin, Mons. Víctor Masalles Pere, at the age of 62.

Who is the new bishop of Baní in the Dominican Republic?
Mons. Faustino Burgos Brisman, current secretary general of the Conference of the Dominican Episcopate (CED), was born on February 15, 1960 in San Francisco de Macorís, in the Dominican Republic. He is 64 years old.
He studied Philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University Mother and Teacher (PUCMM) and Religious Sciences at the Pontifical Saint Thomas of Aquinas Seminary (SPSTA). He was ordained a priest on May 30, 1987.
He has a postgraduate degree in Spirituality from the San Vicente de Paúl International Training Center (Paris) and a diploma in Strategies and Administration of Educational Centers, from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He is a member of the Congregation of the Mission, founded by Saint Vincent de Paul.
He has been a parish priest, parochial vicar, seminary director, vocational promoter, director of the San Vicente de Paúl School, director of the La Milagrosa School and provincial superior on three occasions.
Pope Francis appointed him auxiliary bishop of Santo Domingo on July 22, 2017 and he received episcopal ordination on August 26 of the same year.
The diocese of Baní was erected on November 8, 1986, by Pope Saint John Paul with the bull Spiritual Christianswith territory dismembered from the archdiocese of Santo Domingo.
