Pope Francis appointed Mons. Carlos Tomás Morel Diplán, until now Auxiliary Bishop of Santiago de los Caballeros, as the new Bishop of La Vega (Dominican Republic).
Msgr. Morel, informs the website of the Dominican Episcopate Conference (CED), was Apostolic Administrator of La Vega since December 2, 2023. He is also president of the National Pastoral Commission for Ecology and Environment of the CED.

Mons. Carlos Tomás Morel Diplán was born on November 2, 1969 in Monte de la Jagua, in the province of Espaillat in the Dominican Republic. He is 55 years old.
He studied Philosophy and Theology at the Pontifical Seminary of Saint Thomas Aquinas. He was ordained a priest on June 24, 2000. He graduated in Moral Theology from the Alphonsian Academy in Rome.
In the Archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros he has held important responsibilities, including those of episcopal vicar for the clergy and vicar of the Santiago el Mayor Cathedral Parish.
Pope Francis appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Santiago de los Caballeros on December 14, 2016.
