Pope Francis appointed Father Pedro Ernesto Forneau, 47, who is part of the clergy of that archdiocese, Auxiliary Bishop of Bahía Blanca (Argentina).
From now on, he will assist the Archbishop, Mons. Carlos Azpiroz Costa, who has held the position since 2017, in his task. Along with this appointment, he was also named Titular Bishop of Barato.

The news was known simultaneously in Rome and Buenos Aires, through the apostolic nuncio, Mons. Miroslaw Adamczyk, through the AICA agency.
When the news was heard, Bishop Carlos Azpiroz Costa sent a carta to the community, titled “Today they have announced great joy to us!” There, she thanks God for “such good news”; and to Pope Francis for the appointment.

Who is Pedro Fournau, new Auxiliary Bishop of Bahía Blanca?
Born on July 7, 1977 in Coronel Dorrego, Province of Buenos Aires, Pedro Ernesto Fourneau completed his priestly training at the Santo Cura de Ars Seminary, of the Archdiocese of Mercedes-Luján.
He received his priestly ordination on September 7, 2012 in the Immaculate Conception parish of Coronel Dorrego, from the hands of the then Archbishop, Mons. Guillermo Garlatti.
He served as parochial vicar of Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados, of Carhué (2012-2014) and of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, of Tres Arroyos (2014-2017).
Between 2017 and 2020 he was parish priest of Santa Rosa de Lima, in Pringles.
He also served as advisor to the Social Pastoral and the Base Ecclesial Communities in the Archdiocese of Bahía Blanca.
Since 2020, he has been part of the Team of Trainers of the Santo Cura de Ars Seminary of the Archdiocese of Mercedes-Luján.
He is a diocesan delegate for the animation of the Synod on Synodality and in May he participated in the International Meeting of Parish Priests, prior to the Second Session of the Assembly of the Synod of Bishops.
He also serves as a member of the archdiocese’s Pastoral Council.
