Pope Francis accepted the resignation of a Polish bishop who mishandled allegations of abuse by priests in his diocese.
“The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral government of the Diocese of Lowicz (Poland), presented by His Excellency Most Reverend Monsignor Andrzej Franciszek Dziuba,” notes a brief statement from the Vatican on March 9, without giving further details.
According to the Code of Canon Law, bishops present their resignation to the Pope when they turn 75, and it is then up to the Holy Father to decide whether to accept it or not.
