Vatican Museums: This is the room of the Immaculate Conception of the Apostolic Palace

Every February 7th we remember the Blessed Pope Pius IXwho proclaimed the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, one of the most relevant events in the history of the Catholic Church, and whose memory becomes timeless in a room of the Apostolic Palace.

This is the “Hall of the Immaculate Conception”, an imposing room covered in frescoes that the Pontiff himself ordered to be placed after proclaiming the dogma on December 8, 1854, and which can currently be visited in the Vatican Museums.

To celebrate the event, Pope Pius IX chose a room adjacent to the well-known “Raphael Rooms” in the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican, and commissioned the project to the painter Francesco Podesti.
