This Monday, September 30, it was announced that this is the prayer intention of the Holy Father, along with the video made by the diocese of Brooklyn, DeSales Media, the General Secretariat of the Synod, and the support of the The Pope’s Pro World Prayer Network Foundation.
“All Christians are responsible for the mission of the Church. All the priests. “Everyone,” Pope Francis points out in the video.
“We priests are not the heads of the laity, but rather their pastors. Jesus has called us to each other. Not some above the others, nor some on one side and others on the other, but complementing each other. “We are a community,” he continues.
For this reason, the Pontiff continues, “we must walk together along the path of synodality. Of course, you can ask me, what can I, a bus driver, do? I, a farmer?, or I, a fisherman? What we all have to do: bear witness with our lives. And take co-responsibility for the mission of the Church.”
“The laity, the baptized, are in the Church in their own home, and they have to take care of it. The same as us, the priests, the consecrated ones. Each one contributing what they do best. We are co-responsible for the mission, we participate and live in the communion of the Church.”
To conclude, the Pope encourages us to pray “that the Church continues to support by all means a synodal style of life, under the sign of co-responsibility, promoting participation, communion and the shared mission between priests, religious and laity.”
