Vatican confirms Pope Francis’ trip to Luxembourg and Belgium in September 2024

The Vatican has reported that Pope Francis will visit Belgium and Luxembourg from September 26 to 29 of this year.

The director of the Press Office of the Holy See, Matteo Bruni, confirmed this May 20 about a new apostolic trip that the Holy Father will make in September.

According to the press release issued this morning, the Pontiff has accepted the invitation of the respective heads of state and ecclesiastical authorities to visit both countries.

On Thursday, September 26, it will land in Luxembourg and that same day, until Sunday the 29th, it will visit three Belgian cities: Brussels, Leuven and Leuven la Neuve.

The details of this next trip of Pope Francis, which was already announced a few months ago by the Belgian Episcopal Conference, are still unknown.

The Holy Father will make this trip within the framework of the 600th anniversary of the founding of the University of Leuven, founded in 1425.

It is worth remembering that for the same month of September, Pope Francis has scheduled what will be one of the longest apostolic trips of his pontificate. From September 2 to 13, he will visit four countries in Asia and Oceania.

Specifically, he will travel to Jakarta (capital of Indonesia) from September 3 to 6; to Port Moresby (capital of Papua Guinea) and Vanimo (capital of Sandaun province, in northwestern Papua New Guinea) from the 6th to the 9th; to Dili (capital of East Timor) from the 9th to the 11th; and to the city of Singapore from September 11 to 13.

Just 13 days after his arrival at the Vatican after this long trip, Pope Francis will embark again for these two European countries.
