“The events of Trevignano” in Italy
The facts they would have started after Gisella Cardia, whose original name is Maria Giuseppa Scarpulla, and her husband Gianni brought an image of Our Lady of Peace back to Italy from Medjugorje in 2014.
According to Cardia, the image not only cried blood but also multiplied food and sent a message on the 3rd of each month, as happens with the visionaries of the supposed apparitions of the Virgin in Medjugorje.
During these yearsCardia, who created a non-profit association that received donations, and whose chapel was closed by the Trevignano town hall, brought together numerous faithful and priests in prayer meetings, even though the Church did not authorize them.
All of this, which later became known as the “Trevignano events,” gained notoriety in 2023, the year in which Bishop Salvi assumed the position of Bishop of Civita Castellana, and in which the investigation began, concluded in January 2024.
April 14, 2023the bishop had already published a statement in which he asked the faithful not to attend the events called by Cardia.
On the other hand, the Civitavecchia prosecutor’s office opened an investigation for fraud against Cardia and her husband that same year, and the mayor of the town ordered the demolition of the chapel where his followers gathered.
