Michael Jackson, Eminem, Rihanna, Shakira, The Weeknd… The Super Bowl is an impressive circus that the entire planet watches (last year it was followed by more than 115 million people) and not only for the sporting issue. The fact is that, without a doubt, one of the most anticipated moments is the halftime show, one better than the other over the years. And in the 58th edition, the one chosen by the organization was Usher, the American singer who released an avalanche of hits.
Come the weekend and, after much suspense, the NFL made official the confirmation of the show through a post shared on Instagram with the singer and composer.
“It is the honor of a lifetime to finally have a Super Bowl performance on my bucket list. “I can’t wait to give the world a show unlike anything they’ve seen before me,” Usher said.
This Sunday, at halftime, after 10:20 p.m. in Argentina, the American singer descends the stairs of a circular stage flush with the playing field that allowed a perfect 360 view of the Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.
Usher’s challenge is to summarize 30 years of career in 13 minutes. An avalanche of hits is coming: it starts off incendiary, and Allegiant Stadium catches fire with Superstars. Then follows Love in this club.
If there are surprises? Clear. That’s why Alicia Keys appears for the intro of My Boo on a grand piano. Then, they walk the dance floor (she is dressed in red, as in the original video) to perform the 2004 hit together.
The public is delirious, as in the four presentations organized by Roc Nation, which today was in charge of Usher’s performance. It’s hard to say which one was better, let’s just remember: the Shakira – Jennifer Lopez duo, then The Weekend, in 2022 the hip-hop extravaganza show with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar and finally Rihanna’s tremendous and long-awaited show, in last year’s edition.
