The president of the Episcopate and Military Archbishop of the United States, Mons. Timothy Broglio, pointed out that despite the hatred of the Nicaraguan regime against the Catholic Church, dialogue is still possible to achieve reconciliation.
“Despite all the pain that the Church (in Nicaragua) has suffered, the hatred expressed with savage attacks against parishes, the clergy, the confiscation of property and expulsions from the country, even the desecration of the Blessed Sacrament by politically motivated gangs, “The Church is committed to dialogue and finding a path of reconciliation for the good of the people of Nicaragua,” the prelate said in an event held on December 1, organized in Washington by the Center for Strategic & International Studies.
Bishop Broglio shared with the participants that for him what happens in Nicaragua is “something personal”, since he worked as an official of the Secretariat of State in Nicaragua from 1990 to 2001, and was able to visit the country some time later, in 2018, “ to express the firm solidarity of the Church in the United States with our brothers in the Nicaraguan episcopate.”
