In his message, published under the title “Through the desert God guides us to freedom,” the Holy Father highlighted that, to achieve freedom, we must first recognize “reality” and realize the internal slavery.
He recalled that “God does not get tired of us” and invited us to welcome this time of preparation for Easter as “a strong time in which his Word addresses us again: ‘I am the Lord, your God, who made you leave Egypt, from a place of slavery.”
For Pope Francis, Lent is also “a time of conversion, a time of freedom,” while he stressed that “God does not want subjects, but children.”
