The bishops of the United States invite Catholics throughout the country to participate in the National Vigil for Life on Thursday, January 23 and Friday, January 24, 2025.
“I enthusiastically invite Catholics in all corners of the country to join together in person or virtually, to pray for the end of abortion and the construction of a culture of life,” says Bishop Daniel E. Thomas, Bishop of Toledo and in charge of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities of the American bishops.

In a note published this Friday, November 22, the bishops of the USCCB remember that in June 2022 the Supreme Court issued its historic ruling that put an end to the sentence of Roe vs Wade which had legalized abortion in the United States in 1973.
Since the annulment of the abortion ruling, this issue has become legislated state by state: “Some have increased access to abortion while others are working on stronger policies to protect unborn children and their mothers,” says the statement from today.
“Together we have to pray to change hearts and build a culture of life while defending the most vulnerable. I look forward to the beginning of our vigil and the Holy Mass with other bishops, hundreds of priests, religious, seminarians and thousands of pilgrims,” stressed Bishop Thomas.
This event is held each year at the National Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC and on the campus of the Catholic University of America. This vigil takes place on the eve of the traditional March for Life. The Mass on that day will be presided over by Bishop Thomas and will begin at 5:00 pm (local time).
After the Mass there will be a Eucharistic procession and a Holy Hour for life, in addition to the recitation of the Rosary and blessing. The Eucharist can be followed in this link.
The vigil will conclude on Friday, January 24 at 8:00 am, with a Mass that will be presided over by Bishop Robert J. Brennan, Bishop of Brooklyn.
EWTN, the largest Catholic network in the world, will broadcast the entire event.
