Today the Church celebrates Saint Onesimus the martyr, whom Saint Paul freed from slavery

Every February 16 the universal Church remembers Saint Onesimus, bishop of Ephesus and martyr. The exact date of his birth is unknown, but it is known that he was a native of Colossae (today Turkey). He suffered the condition of a slave for many years until he became a fugitive after stealing from his master, Philemon, a friend of the apostle Saint Paul.
