After much speculation, and with just a month to go before its commercial launch in the country, Volkswagen Argentina showed the first image of the new Amarokwhose production has already begun at the General Pacheco plant.
Although the local subsidiary calls it “new generation” it is a deep update of the midsize pickup that began production here in 2009 and was then updated in 2016.
It is worth remembering that the new generation of Amarok, which was initially going to be manufactured at the Ford Argentina Through an agreement between the two automotive companies (Project Cyclone), it migrated to South Africa after the project was canceled due to differences between both companies.
The Amarok II It was launched internationally in mid-2022 and is sold in Europe and other markets.
When Project Cyclone was canceled, Volkswagen assured that it would continue manufacturing Amarok at its Gral. Pacheco plant to supply regional markets, marking the relaunch for 2024.
Finally, the launch of the new medium pickup is scheduled for the first week of August. Details about how the range will be made up are not yet known, although the 2.0 and 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel engines and the single and all-wheel drive schemes would be maintained.
Changes in sight
Volkswagen only released a single image of its new pickup, which shows a completely renewed nose that debuts a new hood design, grille illuminated with an LED light strip (Taos style), logo, headlights and bumpers.
In 2017, the 224 HP 3.0-liter V6 engine was introduced, making it the most powerful pickup truck on the market. Then it launched the spicier 258 HP variant. The Extreme version (photo), one of the most equipped currently, shows black details on the sides, the cargo box bar and the wheels.
Although there have not yet been confirmations of the interior, it is known that there will be versions with a digital instrument panel and VW Play multimedia system, already present in other models such as Taos and Nivus, among others.
The incorporation of new upholstery designs and materials is also expected, and in terms of equipment, the introduction of driving assistance systems.
The Amarok in numbers
- Volkswagen Amarok began production in 2009 at the Pacheco Industrial Center, which was selected among the 122 production plants in the world to manufacture the Group’s first mid-size pickup truck globally.
- Versions were produced with various configurations, including single cab and double cab, 2.0 and 3.0 liter engines, manual and automatic transmissions, and dozens of equipment versions adapted to all needs.
- More than 120,000 right-hand drive units have also been manufactured, with the purpose of being exported to markets in Oceania, Africa and Central America.
- In 2016, the first major restyling was presented. That version introduced the variants with a V6 engine, which made it the most powerful truck in its category.
- With more than 740,00 units, Amarok is the most manufactured model in the history of the General Pacheco plant.
