Thanks to the intercession of the future Saint Carlo Acutis, a 21-year-old girl from Costa Rica, Valeria Valverde, miraculously survived a serious bicycle accident that left her on the brink of death with a very serious head injury.

Valeria had been studying in Florence since 2018 and in July 2022 she fell off her bicycle while riding on a street in the city center. The young woman had to undergo an emergency craniotomy to reduce intracranial pressure.

As reported by the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints From the Vatican, the family was informed from the hospital that his situation was very critical and that he could die at any moment.

On July 8, Valeria’s mother, Liliana, went on a pilgrimage to Assisi and prayed at the tomb of Blessed Carlo Acutis, to whom she entrusted her daughter and also left a letter with her written request.

That same day, Valeria breathed spontaneously again and the next day the doctors confirmed the recovery of the mobility of her upper limbs and also her partial recovery of speech.

On July 18, 2022, 10 days after her mother’s pilgrimage, the young woman was discharged from the intensive care unit and the results of a CT scan showed that the hemorrhagic contusion on her brain had completely disappeared.

Contrary to medical predictions, Valeria only spent a week in physical therapy and on September 2, 2022, two months after her accident, the young Costa Rican girl made a pilgrimage to Carlo Acutis’ tomb with her mother to celebrate and give thanks for his miraculous healing.

It should be remembered that this is the second miracle attributed to the “cyberapostle of the Eucharist.” Before his beatification, which took place on October 10, 2020 in Assisi, Pope Francis approved a miracle wrought by his intercession in Brazil, where a child was cured of a serious illness.

It was about Matheus, a boy who suffered from a congenital malformation known as annular pancreas and which was cured thanks to the fact that his mother, Luciana Vianna, prayed tirelessly for four years for his healing.
