In the city of Maracay, southwest of Caracas (Venezuela), the “incorrupt body” of Blessed Mary of Saint Joseph is preserved, whose feast day is every May 7. It is guarded by the Augustinian Recollect Sisters of the Heart of Jesus, founded by the Blessed, and can be appreciated by visitors and devotees.
In statements to ACI Prensa, Sr. Gracelia Molina, vice postulator of the cause of canonization of Blessed María de San José, stated that the body of the blessed “is totally incorrupt, 100% incorrupt, because there are saints who are partially incorrupt. In her case, she even preserves her internal organs.”
In the book Blessed Mary of Saint Joseph, written by the Augustinian Recollect priest P. Ángel Peña, describes that in 1994 the body was exhumed after 27 years of being buried. “His body was incorrupt, his clothes were intact; and the lilies that he had in his hands were well preserved,” says the priest and historian.
