Central Rosary beat 1-0 Platense and became champion of the League Cup 2023 after a vibrant final played in Santiago del Estero, which was decided by Maximiliano Lovera’s goal in the first half.
From the hand of Miguel Ángel Russoleader of a team of young people, supported by the talent of Ignacio Malcorra and with the revelation of Jaminton Campaz, Canalla won its twelfth title, the first since 2018, the year in which it won the Argentine Cup after beating Gimnasia in the final by penalties.
Not counting that joy that it enjoyed five years ago, Central’s last great consecration in Argentine soccer was in 1987, when it was crowned champion of the First Division tournament the year after having achieved promotion, with the legendary figure of Omar Palma.
If we talk about memories of glory, it is also worth mentioning his only international title, in 1995. He was champion of the Conmebol Cup after overcoming a 0-4 loss in the first leg in the final with another 4-0 win in Arroyito and the celebration in the penalties, with Horacio “el Petaco” Carbonari climbing the Giant’s fence.
Rosario Central is the new champion of Argentine soccer, and will be able to add one more title when next week it plays the Champions Trophy against River, again in Santiago del Estero.
