That night, the eve of the feast of St. Blaise, Father Stojko, parish priest of what is now the old town of Dubrovnik, was walking around until he saw that the doors of St. Stephen’s Church were open. Upon entering, he saw an old man with gray hair, who introduced himself to him as Saint Blaise.
“I come to warn you of a great danger for the city,” he said. The Venetians were deceiving them, as their intention was to invade and take over the city, which was beginning to grow and become a threat to the commercial power of Venice. The priest had to tell the city council.
The parish priest hurried to go with the authorities carrying the message of Saint Blaise. Immediately, the city gates were protected and its heavy walls prepared for action. Seeing what was happening, the Venetians changed their minds, abandoned their plans and continued sailing.
